Sapphire Winery Project

Lodged within the heart of Chagrin Valley, Sapphire Creek Winery & Gardens is a gorgeous 11,000 square feet expanse that brings in the hearty comfort of the undisturbed nature. The vision, borne out of Kathleen and Andy Dangelo, was inspired from the whimsical wineries at Napa Valley, where architecture weds harmoniously with its organic environment. In order to bring the same ambience to Northeast Ohio, the Dangelos transformed their 15-acre property by enlisting the help of their own company, the Ohio Valley Group.

Known for creating stunning outdoor spaces and landscape design, the Ohio Valley Group has transformed the property into a brightly-lit, open-space restaurant, clad with panoramic glass windows and lofty barn ceilings. Being surrounded by a lush forest, this secluded sanctuary has been a fond choice for many events – private and public alike – where guests can revel in the refreshing sight of the trees, and the scent of aged wines. Provided with the sumptuous cuisine by Kimberly and Jimmy Gibson – the geniuses behind Chagrin Fall’s Hungry Bee Eatery – Sapphire Creek is a treat to the senses, where sight, smell and flavours bask in a one-of-a-kind dining experience.

This will not be complete, however, without the cosy aesthetics of the restaurant’s interiors. With luxury in mind, Moderne Living furnished the location with chairs, lounges and tables that will match Sapphire Creek's minimalist aesthetics. Our mandate was to give each space a strong sense of deluxe ease, without overpowering the general concept.

We handpicked furniture that exudes grace and subtle extravagance. For the dining room, we surrounded each table with Olly Chair from Bontempi Casa – a sturdy, stackable chair with a clean rectangular cut that easily blends in with the environment. This allowed other highlights, such as the towering ceiling and the contemporary chandeliers, to sweep one's attention.

The chalet-like appearance of the open space is made more elegant with the installation of Mishell Lounge Chair. Created by Piotr Kuchinski, this stylish, bucket-shaped design allows guests to sink back and gaze into the fireplace during colder nights. The generous width of the chair lets one take various positions as they pass the time in the lounge area.

Lining up the quaint bar in the middle of the dining space is the Kuga Counter Stool from Bontempi Casa. A luxuriously refined piece with slender legs, this stool is dressed with leather upholstery and allows high-seating for an easier reach. Guests will find comfort sat on this chair while being served by the barista or snacking on some nibbles. For a more distinct charm, we have chosen a two-toned fabric that will cleanly match the neutral palette.

Across the restaurant, one can spot the sleek, leather-covered Clara Chair, also from Bontempi Casa. The grey colour adds a masculine charm to the white, feminine palette. This we paired with a tuxedo-based table from Varaschin, elegantly topped with white marble that speaks of luxury and finesse. Bearing a motif that easily complements every surrounding, both furniture showcases a contemporary beauty that will never go out of style.

Outdoors is a chance to bask under the sun and revel in a chatter with friends while inhaling Chagrin Valley's fresh air. Thus, we have outfitted their decks with an installation of Boss Benches. Designed by Alivar, the Boss Bench is a generously upholstered lounge chair placed atop a chrome-plated frame. Inside, it is padded with polyurethane foam that offers comfort while cradling various weights with durability and resilience.

Sapphire Creek's aesthetics shine with an emphasis on luxury, comfort and simplicity. With our handpicked furniture, we were able to translate the owner’s vision into one that effortlessly melds with the natural environment. It is possible to design with extravagance without taking away what is truly important – the stunning architecture, the delicious food, and the glorious surprises one can experience in the middle of a forest.
